Transcoding Nikon/Canon Digital SLRs H.264 recordings to Final Cut Pro(FCP 7/X) Mac (Yosemite)

If your digital still camera or digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR) is compatible with Final Cut Pro 7, FCP X, FCP 10, you can import the h.264 mov video into FCP supported format-ProRes and then editing them.

A digital single-lens reflex camera (also called a digital SLR or DSLR) is a digital camera combining the optics and the mechanisms of a single-lens reflex camera with a digital imaging sensor, as opposed to photographic film. The reflex design scheme is the primary difference between a DSLR and other digital cameras.

Hot DSLR Cameras:
Nikon: D4, D3X, D800, D600, D300S, D7000, D5200, D90, D5100, D3200
Canon: EOS 550D, EOS 600D, EOS 650D, EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 60D, EOS 7D

If you are one of Canon or Nikon DSLRs users, I think most of you certainly encountered following Feedback:

I own a Canon 550D, which is great at what it does. The only niggle is the difficulty in handling the video files which are encoded in a highly CPU intensive codec (h264). It’s hard to import the H.264 files to FCP 7 on my iMac.

I have a Nikon D5100. What software should I get to transfer video for editing into FCP? I have FCP7. Also, it seems that I can only transfer the video with a USB connection, or is there a firewire I can use? I am not a computer expert so please, don’t be to technical.

If you want to transfer videos from a Canon or Nikion DSLR camera into FCP 7/X editing , the video you imported should first be converted to ProRes 422, a format better suited for FCP, in this case , you will need one professional video converter for Canon, Nikon DSLRs.

Here’s great software that allows you to easily transcode the DSLR movies to the files readable by Final Cut Pro. DSLRs Video Converter for Mac is the one we highly recommended. Applying it, you can transcode Canon/Nikon DSLR H.264 videos to Apple ProRes on Mac OS X for FCP 7, FCP X easy editing (10.10 Yosemite included).

GoPro HD MP4 GOOD for iMovie?- Editing GoPro videos with iMovie on Mac(Mavericks & Yosemite)

The following pages will clearly describe the reasons, and teach you how to convert GoPro MP4 video to iMovie AIC MOV format (iMovie'11 Included) on Mac OS X (Mavericks & Yosemite)?

I usually edit my videos on my Mac with Apple’s iMovie app. This tutorial is about GoPro video and iMovie. All the reports I’d read suggested that GoPro videos needed converting from MPEG-4 to a format iMovie can handle. But the first time I tried importing directly, iMovie seemed to handle everything fine without converting. But then I ran into difficulties. I had to cancel the first import – and couldn’t get the Mac to resume. (It wouldn’t do anything without the camera being connected.) I had no better luck the second time. So today, I bit the bullet, and converted my latest GoPro videos before attempting to edit it in iMovie. It worked flawlessly.

You may also be confused: is it necessary to convert GoPro videos to iMovie? According to my own experience, my best tip for anyone else wanting to edit GoPro footage in iMovie is this: accept you need to convert the footage first. You’ll save yourself a lot of frustration.

The basic reason is that the GoPro video file off of the micro SD card has a H.264 codec, and has an MP4 file extension. The file type is a compressed output format, but not ideal for editing in NLE system. For the purpose to help all the GoPro(Surf Hero, Hero 960, HD Hero 2, HD Hero 3, Hero 3+) users to import GoPro MP4 files to iMovie smoothly, I will share a fast way to convert GoPro video to iMovie with Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac.

It supports converting all GoPro camera MP4 files to Apple InterMediate Codec MOV with fast encoding speed and without quality loss. With it, you can effortlessly import and edit your GoPro HD MP4 footage within iMovie '11, iMovie'9 and iMovie 08. This will help you import the file correctly and saving the rendering time and other issues. Just download it and follow the step-by-step guide to transcode GoPro MP4 files for editing in iMovie.

Convert/Import GoPro MP4 files to iMovie 11

Step 1: Add Gopro video files

Install and launch the best GoPro to iMovie Converter and load source MP4 clips to it. You can check the “Merge into one file” to join GoPro files together.

Step 2: Choose output format

Hit the "Format" bar and select iMovie and Final Cut Express > Apple InterMediate Codec(*.mov) as output format on the drop-down menu.

Tip - Profile Settings:
In case the default settings do not fit your requirement, you can click “Settings” button and enter “Profile Settings” panel to adjust video size, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate and audio channels.

Step 3: Start GoPro to iMovie conversion

Click the arrow button to start converting GoPro MP4 to AIC MOV for iMovie.

Once the process completed, click "Open" button to find the generated videos, and then you can transfer the converted GoPro MP4 files to iMovie 11 easily and quickly.

Additional Tip:

Besides transcoding GoPro MP4 to iMovie, the best GoPro Video Converter Mac can also export DNxHD for Avid Media Composer, MPEG-2 for Adobe Premiere Pro/Premiere Element, ProRes for Final Cut Pro and more NLE systems for native editing.

Well, Sony DSC-WX500 is a brilliant camera! Many videographers love it as a great all around tool. But, is there an easy way that allows easy import XAVC S files into Adobe Premiere Pro directly, without having to use or open Sony's lousy Content Browser or other complex plug-ins. I’m seeking the Sony DSC-WX500 XAVC S to Premiere Pro best workflow.

As far as I know, Media Browser is a helpful tool for users to import XAVC S files to Premiere, though it has a high requirement against computer configuration, operating environment and editing software version. I’ve tried it, but it didn’t help me move my Sony WX500 XAVC S videos to Adobe Premiere smoothly. Since the highest picture resolution and frame rate video compression codec is much more than a video format that Premiere can support, the best workaround to transfer Sony WX500 footage to Adobe Premiere is to convert XAVC-S to MPEG-2, the most compatible video format for Adobe Premiere (no matter Premiere Pro CC, CS6, CS5, or CS4). Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac is highly recommended here.

Step 2: Click "Format" pull down list to select Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas> MPEG-2(*.mpg) as the best video format for Premiere Pro. WMV, MOV formats are the good choice as well.

Tip: This XAVC S to MPEG-2 Converter also allows you to customize audio and video parameters like Video Codec, aspect ratio, bit rate, frame rate, Audio codec, sample rate, audio channels.

Step 3: When you finish all settings, hit “Convert” button to start XAVC S to .mpg conversion on Mac OS X. You can follow the conversion process from the pop-up windows.

When the conversion finished, you can import the converted XAVC-S file to Adobe Premiere Pro CC/CS6/CS5/CS4 smoothly with superior speed and the best quality.

Additional Tips:
